Handling Hygiene (Just Hardly)

This picture does not do the sign justice, and I apologize that you can't get a close enough view of it. It's ok. I will explain it. It's a sign warning people of the different things they shouldn't flush down the toilet because apparently, these are issues in Scotland. They have problems with people flushing down large quantities of cotton tips, as you can see in the center. Not only so, people also flush down unopened packets of all sorts of goodies and of course, lots of plastic razors. There was a guy version (or more gender-neutral?) version of this poster in green, in which the hand also flushed down inordinate amounts of pills. Such, my friend, are the social ills in Scotland.

You have to look pretty closely to notice, or just take my word on this. That toilet seat is not a completely smooth oval. The inside is rather wavy, or rippled. I don't know about you, but that struck me as rather odd. Cara (or was it Kara?) suggested that it was perhaps to provide a better grip. None of us would be surprised if falling into the bowl was another trouble the Scots had with their toilets. In that case, a rippled seat would be just the invention to solve their problems.

Now that, to the left below, is a plush throne fit for a king. And to the right? I just have this thing about cute, little sinks. When I see one, I have to take a picture. This is the teensiest yet I've seen in a normal-sized bathroom. Smaller, even, than the sideway sink in that closet of a water-closet in France. Qu'il est beau, le lavabo, non?
